2019 Bon Ami Cabernet and Shiraz
($76.50 Wine Club price)
Bon Ami, French for Good Friend, was named to reflect on the relationship between Cabernet and Shiraz, in an Australian Context, the best of friends. Like all our best friends, they complement each other, Cabernet providing structure, but can lack the mid pallet sweetness, something that Shiraz has in spades. The result, a wine that delivers on the front palate, in the mid palate and on the back palate. Our 2019 Bon Ami delivers.
The 2019 Bon Ami has all the hallmarks of a wine that will benefit from a significant stint in the cellar - bright purple hue, powerful black and blue fruits, full bodied, the dense fruit balanced by abundant natural tannins. More powerful than the 2018, but like that wine, it finishes very long. A Classic in the making.

Technical Tasting Notes
2019 ‘Bon Ami’ Cabernet and Shiraz
GROWING SEASON
2019 vintage has proven exceptional in both the Barossa Valley and Coonawarra. Albeit different, with the Barossa Valley being drier than average, and Coonawarra receiving good winter rain, conditions were both warm, with good fruit set and resulting yields with no periods of significant prolonged heat and fortunately limited frosts and rain over harvest. An excellent vintage in both regions. The second such situation for Hayes Family Wines and as such this allowed us to create our second release of Bon Ami, a blend of our best barrels of Barossa Valley Shiraz and Coonawarra Cabernet.

Bon Ami, French for Good Friend, was named to reflect on the relationship between Cabernet and Shiraz, in an Australian context, the best of friends. Like all our best friends, they complement each other, Cabernet providing structure, but perhaps lacking that mid pallet sweetness, something that Shiraz has in spades. The result, a wine that delivers on the front palate, in the mid palate and on the back palate. Our 2019 Bon Ami delivers and will do so for many years. The 2019 Bon Ami has all the hallmarks of a wine that will benefit from a significant stint in the cellar - bright purple hue, powerful black and blue fruits, full bodied, the dense fruit balanced by abundant natural tannins. The wine finishes very long. One of our favourites.

95 Points - A regional and varietal blend of 60% Coonawarra cabernet and 40% Barossa Valley shiraz. Excellent colour; the Barossa shiraz is from Ebenezer, which explains the power of this component.
