Hayes Family Wines - Vintage 2021 Diary - Life Slowly Returning to Normal

The Ducks Visit the Winery

Week 8

This week like the 7 before started with fruit, our Estate Mataro blocks and Eden Valley Shiraz were picked. This leaves us with just the Schulz Mataro and a little Shiraz for our Fortified Shiraz and Tawnies.

We managed to put a number of the ferments to rest, through the Press and into Barrel.

The Pre-Vintage Festival Weekend has proved a very good one for us, with some great friends visiting from Brisbane, and really strong visitation in Cellar Door. A nice distraction from the Vintage Grind. With Vintage Festival kicking off on Wednesday, we can expect a busy week. A great time to be in the Barossa Valley if you are considering a trip up from Adelaide.

The Week Ahead

The week with start with the last grapes of Vintage 2021, some Mataro from the Schulz’s and a little Shiraz for Vintage Fortified Shiraz. The fruit looks wonderful, but with rain circling, time to close out picking for 2021. We have had a great run, no rain for a few months. Now we can just pray for a wet winter!

With the final fruit due, we start thinking about closing out Vintage 2021. We will have maybe 2-3 weeks to go.

Vintage Festival 2021 starts Wednesday. We can typically expect some 30,000 people in and around Barossa. Some for day trips, some for the week. We look forward to welcoming many of them to our little cellar door in Stone Well.
