VINOUS - Barossa 2022: Run, Don’t Walk

The 2022 Barossa vintage

I have always loved the 2022 vintage, 2021 carried wonderful fruit, and a remarkable consistency, but the best of 2022 have always stood tall. They are not all great, but the ones that are, will age magnificently.

Angus started his article (which you can read here) with ‘Is there such a thing as a perfect vintage? Where the sun shines brightly but not too brightly, and the gods deliver just the right amount of rainfall at the perfect time?’

He continues with ‘But head-to-head, taking hail out of the equation, the top wines from 2022 offer more fruit power and focus underpinned by balanced acidity and firm tannins that provide upfront energy, appeal and more consistent aging.’

His favourites of ours, ironically some of the 21s, the 2021 Reserve Shiraz (96 Points) and 2021 Hoffmann DV, 2021 Marananga Shiraz and the 2022 Block 15 all 94 Points and of course the 2022 Grenache’s including the now sold out Reserve Grenache 95 Points.

If you are not a subscriber, this is definitely one of the better sites as they compare, on a common rating system the wines of the world. Not many 98s and 99s, but a return to more traditional ratings were 94 is a sign of a special wine.
