Hayes Family Wines - Vintage 2021 Diary - Week 3 - Reds Picking Up Pace

Grape Sampling - Ebenezer Shiraz

Handpicking - Ebenezer Shiraz

Week 3

The weather has continued to be mild, very cool nights, nice warm days. With this weather forecast for the next week we took the decision to delay the harvest plans for the shiraz from Ebenezer, Stone Well and Koonunga. This weather is perfect for flavour development without excessive baume/sugar accumulation.

On Friday the 5th of March, we began with our first delivery of Ebenezer Shiraz from the Schulz Vineyard. Despite what has gone on before it, this aligns with the dates we have seen for the last few years. The new normal.

As we look ahead, next week we can expect more shiraz and more into the following week. Busy times ahead.

The Week ahead

The week ahead should see plenty of shiraz from across they Valley, South to North, with a little from Stone Well. Sleep will soon be at a premium. This should see the vintage truly begin, picking, pump overs, crushing new grapes, and the cycle begins again. A beautiful time to be in the Barossa.
