A Local Initiative that will be enjoyed by the World

At Hayes Family Wines, we are very focused on doing the best we can possibly do in our vineyards, in our winery and in everything else that comes together in the wines that you drink at home. But occasionally, we have the opportunity to get involved in something that is important the Australian Wine Industry, and more globally, the World Wine Industry. And the Barossa Cellar is exactly that.

We are proud to be the owners of one of only 35 old vine source vineyards for the Barossa Cellar Shiraz Block. The Barossa Cellar is a multi-million dollar showcase building and underground cellar to house both the administrative arm of the Barossa Wine and Grape Association and also the museum collection of wines donated by Barossa wineries (including Hayes Family Wines) over the last decade. It is an extraordinary community achievement spearheaded by the Barons of Barossa fraternity and was officially opened in March.

As part of helping fund the project, vines are being sold after cuttings were taken from the aforementioned 35 old vine blocks, dating back to 1843. They will form a 2000 vine vineyard from which wine will be made, with those proud vine owners having the option to purchase. The cuttings for our Row, Row 22, came from Block 1 of our old Estate Shiraz Block in Stone Well.

And you now have the opportunity to purchase a vine in our row. We have purchased Vine 1, in Row 22. Whilst it will be a few years before you get the opportunity to purchase wine from this special Barossa Cellar block, we thought we could drink our wines from Block 1 where the new vines have come from! If you would like to nominate for a vine make sure you mention “Hayes Family Stone Well Block Row” on the form.

You can find the details here , A wonderful initiative that we are very proud to be a part of.
