Vintage 2018 is with us, Our First Grapes, Our First Wine

At 7am on the 27th of February, we started picking our first grapes of the highly promising 2018 vintage, some fabulous old vine Grenache from Koonunga, in the very Northern Barossa. This patch is owned by one the great gentleman of the Barossa Valley, Ian Becker.

Three hours later, we had 2 small bins, or a little over 1 tonne of Grenache fruit destined for the 2018 Rose. Picked early at just 12.2 baume to retain all the freshness the grapes could muster.

Off to the winery, grapes were crushed, a little over 3 hours later, into the press, and what beautiful colour. Settling overnight, and into barrel for fermentation this morning. And the juice? it looks absolutely beautiful, pristine fruit flavours, excellent natural acid. And thankyou my Becker, your fruit is superb.

And to tomorrow, the old vine Semillon from the Historic Ebenezer Property of Marcus Schulz
