2022 PRIMROSE VINEYARD CABERNET

GROWING SEASON
The 2022 Barossa Valley vintage will be remembered as truly great year, albeit different to the 2021 season that proceeded it. Good spring rains meant that we entered the growing season with good soil moisture levels. A warm dry growing season followed, with balanced and healthy canopies producing an average crop of extremely high quality fruit. Certainly one of the best in the last decade, maybe longer. The good news is that flavours and colours (in reds) and overall quality is exceptional. A truly great Barossa vintage in the making.

TASTING NOTE
Our Single Block 'Vineyard Series' Primrose Cabernet from the exceptional 2022 vintage comes from a tiny patch of Cabernet Sauvignon grown high in the hills of famed Schulz Vineyard in the Ebenezer district of the northern Barossa. This block is adjacent to the Primrose Shiraz block. The soil in this section of the vineyard is rich ironstone over clay and white marl. The wine has all the hallmarks of a Northern Barossa cabernet grown on ironstone soils in a cool vintage - bright purple red hue, powerful black and blue fruits, medium bodied, absolute purity of fruit with fine abundant natural tannins. This wine is well integrated and drinks beautifully now, but will cellar for a long time in the right conditions.

2021 Vineyard Series Primrose CABERNET SAUVIGNON

NED GOODwin (jamessuckling.com)

95 Points - A full-bodied cabernet, drinking like a cooler-climatic one. A fine wine, boasting a phalanx of beautifully wrought tannins, corralling redcurrant and a wisp of verdant herb. Pliant, chewy and moreish, with real personality and fidelity to place, rather than invasive winemaking as the signature. The tannins make the wine, their pithy bite lingering long. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Huon Hooke (Real Review)

95 Points - Very deep red with a good purple tint; the bouquet is reserved, latent, ironstone and cassis; dense, very ripe black fruits with a note of graphite. It's very full-bodied, slightly chewy but supple in the tannin department, the whole package deep and well concentrated with impressive flavour and approachable yet ageworthy structure. Very long finish. 10 JAN 2023

95 Points - Right in the slot, this is an impressive Cabernet. Sure it's young but brace yourself for what the future holds. I must admit, Barossa Cabernet is not my go-to when I search for the variety, but isn't it just a great thing when you get wines like this that turn those perceptions on their head?

There's a vibe and swagger about this wine from the northern Barossa that will have you salivating for more. Blackberries and blackcurrants loom large as one would expect. Add some dark chocolate, dense black plums and hints of cedar, it's a wine that gets in deep and is ready for the long haul. A persistent finish caps off a terrific wine.
