our OTHER barossa valley VINEYARDS
Our primary Barossa Valley Vineyards span the full reaches of the Barossa Valley from Ebenezer and Koonunga in the North, Eden Valley in the East, and Williamstown in the South. These vineyards complement our Estate Vineyards in the Western Barossa Valley.
Our key Northern Barossa Valley Vineyards are located in Ebenezer and its neighbouring district, Koonunga. The Shiraz from fruit here is typically opulent and concentrated, exhibiting black and blue fruits with dark chocolate and expressive, velvety tannins. Altitude extends to around 380m and soils are predominantly brown loams over red clay, ironstone and limestone. Much of the Primrose Vineyard is now certified organic. Red varieties grown include Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro and Cabernet Sauvignon. We also source our primary whites variety, Semillon from here.
We additionally source small parcels of fruit from other Barossa Valley vineyards, most notably from the Fromm’s in Williamstown at the very southern end of the region. The vines from this locale ripen earlier, and retain a freshness and vitality that we do not typically see in the warmer climates. The vines here are very old (some over 100 years of age) and are low yielding, producing excellent quality Shiraz, Grenache and Semillon to complement our northern fruit sources. The Fromm Vineyards are Certified Sustainable.
We are also very fortunate to have access to some special vineyards in other regions that allow us to produce very different styles and varieties. These include an old Shiraz vineyard in Eden Valley owned by the Angas’. We also occasionally produce a wonderfully long lived Riesling from here. We also source Pinot Noir from the Adelaide Hills (planted by winemaker Andrew Seppelt’s family back in 1980).
