Wine is an alcoholic beverage, but there is more to it than that
I recently read about a new initiative, Come Over October Campaign, which is looking to change the narrative about wine. The goal is to tell the positive story about wine: As friends and family we often come together at the dinner table, wine plays an important role in shared experiences and has been a communal beverage throughout history, bringing people together. Karen MacNeil, author, speaker and consultant, said that the idea for the campaign came about as a counter to Dry January, which she said frames wine solely as alcohol rather than a communal beverage with cultural significance.
We are all very aware of the issues that alcohol can create in our community. It has been much publicised, but what we certainly see is that the benefits of wine, both socially and for health reasons is often overlooked in today’s world where we find it easier to tell other people what to do rather than take responsibility for our our own actions and make our own choices. Wine is a drink that brings people together, that supports conversation and discussion. All of which are positive.
The campaign kicks off October 2024.
The goal is to tell the positive story about wine. So get some friends and family together, share a meal, share some wine and celebrate what is good about wine, yes in moderation, but there is a lot that is good about bringing people together to talk, to eat and importantly share conversation and laugh.
