Blending the Hayes Family Wines 2020 Whites - COVID Style

Well, COVID has presented its share of challenges. Some have been managed with relative ease, and have provided a bit of fun along the way. The border controls have put a bit of a spanner in the works though! We recently completed the blending exercise for the 2020 whites, including the 2020 Semillon, Roussanne, and Blanc. Andrew and Christa (our white wine maker), both based in the Barossa, put together some samples from the various barrels and tanks of base wine. These samples of potential blends and the key blending components were then sent to Brett in Brisbane and the discussions began. A few times back and forth, new samples sent, and finally the blends were agreed!

The Semillon will be bottled tomorrow, the others were blended and returned to barrel for another month when we will repeat the process to check the blends again. At this stage, the wines looked absolutely stellar, fresh with a beautiful acid drive. There may not be many of them, but the wines from 2020 are looking fabulous.
