barossa valley ESTATE VINEYARD
Our Estate Vineyard in Stone Well is located on the Western Ridge of the Barossa Valley, home to some of the region’s most powerful expressions of Shiraz, structured for ageing with black fruits wrapped in firm, muscular tannins. The Western Ridge provides cooling relief during the hot afternoon sun throughout the ripening season.
Altitude is around 270m and the soils here transition from dark loam to sandy clay loam and gravelly loam, with varying levels of stone and rock. All blocks are well drained and hold very little ground water. These are tough soils, but the seasoned old vines produce small crops of concentrated fruit; just perfect for the intense, fruit driven yet balanced wines that we seek.
Our vines are on their own roots and are farmed organically. both our winery and vineyard are certified organic and Certified sustainable.
Varieties grown include 1948 plantings of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro and new plantings of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Marsanne. Total area under vine is 4.5 ha.
