Hayes Family Wines - Vintage 2021 Diary - The Last of the Big Weeks, Easter Looms
Week 7
This week started heavy, with almost 20 tonne of fruit rolling in on Monday. 3 lots of Hoffman Shiraz, Becker Grenache, 2 small Ancestor blocks of shiraz. This provided for a busy day Monday crushing before we resumed pumping over, pressing and putting wines to barrel. At the end of the week we have just 10 or so fermenters still doing there thing. Great progress.
We have just 4 Mataro blocks (including 2 Estate Blocks) and some Eden Valley Shiraz to come in. The weather has been wonderful and with more great weather forecast this coming week there is no hurry.
The Easter Weekend has proved very busy for Cellar Door necessitating me taking breaks from the Winery to help out Vanessa. It is great catching up with so many interested visitors. With Vintage Festival now just one week away, more planning required as we can expect a big influx of visitors plus a few events for us to host and attend. A great time to be in the Barossa Valley.
The Week Ahead
The week ahead will see a few blocks of Estate Mataro being picked, with the remaining Ebenezer Blocks still some weeks away. will start busy, with about 6 tonne of Shiraz, 3 tonne of Grenache due in Monday. This will set up the week ahead as we continue to press out the wines that are finished fermenting. This week should see us get to more than 50% of the crush in barrel, and only 15% of grapes remaining on the vine, all Mataro.
With Easter ahead, and a busy weekend at Cellar Door expected, shortly followed by the Barossa Vintage Festival and a range of events (including vineyard visits and a Legends Behind the Barrel event), there no rest just yet!
